I began writing poems in junior high and had my first published poem included in a book of poetry at thirteen. No matter what kind of writing I do at different times in my life, I always find my way back to poetry. Here are some poems from years past. If you enjoy any of them, let me know and tell me why.

Character Poems
I often use poems in character development for my novels to capture and express emotions that are not always part of the story but are what drives behaviors. In this way, I’m able to know my characters on a deeply emotional level. Most my 2025 poems, tell the story of Issac and Darwin from my novel “An Unsustainable Life,”
When I started writing, “An Unsustainable Life,” I mostly knew the story I wanted to tell and what each character would experience, but I didn’t yet know the characters; what pain they’ve overcome, what scars mire their judgement, what fears darken and confuse their journey; in other words, who they are. You can’t finish the sentence, “A guy walks in a bar…” without knowing the guy, and that’s the mystery my character poems solve.
Poems from 2026
The poems are listed in reverse chronological order; I don’t know if that matters but as an engineer, process is important! Most are background for my novel, “An Unsustainable Life,” . . . who says you need ninety-thousand words to tell a story.

Most my 2025 poems are background for my novel, “An Unsustainable Life,” but there are also some that just needed to be written.
Poems from 2024
Most my 2024 poems tell the story of Kyle and Isabelle from my novel “The Dangling Conversation.” Read the poems and then read the novel and tell me if the stories are the same.
Poems from 2023
My list of 2023 poetry is short. Most are from my novel “The Dangling Conversation.” Others are about world conflicts. . . it was an unsettling year.
