Certain Beauty
There’s a certain beauty
in sadness,
lonely echoes of
diminishing quiet
awaken the invisible soul
we keep only for ourselves
because it draws you inward
the same subtle way
watching sunset’s
orange glow pierce
the smoke-filled sky
of a distant forest fire
paints your mood
in pastel melancholy.
From the R.M. Dolin novel, “An Unsustainable Life – The Book of Darwin.” Darwin laments his life choices while watching the sun set over the Jemez Mountains through the smokey haze of a forest fire.
Ode to Canada: written while marveling at the sun setting over the Missouri River in South Dakota through a smoky haze that’s drifted down from a Canadian forest fire.
