First novel in a three-part series by R.M. Dolin
What Is To Be Done – SUMMARY
It’s Hard Running a Revolution
When You Keep Getting Interrupted
JAKE (60’s) is a retired Los Alamos National Laboratory scientist who owns New Mexico’s first legal distillery. He’s not a rebel any more than a recluse but after Emelia’s tragic death he only leaves home to hang out with former colleagues from his Mind’s Eye Project who call themselves, the Americans for a New America. The ANA are like any group of complaining old men except these resourceful intellectuals are secretly plotting a virtual coup. As they discuss pre-launch measures, their quixotic quest gets interrupted by SYMPATICO, as she attempts to escape MIGUEL and his human trafficking cartel. While coming to Sympatico’s rescue is never in question, Jake’s clueless about what to do with the aftermath.
Jake tries passing Sympatico off on PADRE, a small parish priest, but rather than help, Padre insists God has chosen Jake for this burden. Poorly equipped for such responsibility, Jake’s efforts to help Sympatico recover fall short and are explosively misinterpreted. When Jake hires CHANCE, a Harley drifter hiding from his past, the smoldering chaos stirs. When Miguel demands Sympatico back and the ANA realize their seditious coup has been discovered by government Watchers, immediate action is required.
Dr. Dolin previously worked at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, with research in the areas of Truth and Trust. He was also the Los Alamos liaison to Homeland Security for incident response in the aftermath of 9/11. In addition, Dr. Dolin owned and operated New Mexico’s first distillery, all of which qualifies him to tell this story. In addition to publishing over 100 technical papers, Dr. Dolin has written five novels, two nonfiction books, one cookbook, and a plethora of poems. Dr. Dolin’s novel writing method is to use poetry for character development and as a springboard for storytelling, as such, it is possible to enjoy his stories in both novel and poetry form.
In book two of the trilogy, “Trophic Cascade – The Rise and Fall of Quiet Acquiescence,” the story picks up with Sympatico missing and a worry she could be the murdered woman at Miguel’s ranch.
