Lonely Ledge of Truth
Standing on the lonely ledge of truth
apologizing once more
for me being me
is a pretty dang darn good time
to wonder
what the hell’s going on.
Mistakes were made,
on that we agree,
but there’s not much harmony around
who to believe.
If it weren’t for voyeurs
casting coffins of conclusion
we wouldn’t know who won the war
or even that we were at war.
There’s a outdated version of me
living in your memories
like a painting on a hallway door
portraying a singular moment
frozen in time
unable to penetrate obstacles
that present like poison.
You say the same blue sky
providing an uneven panoramic
on our canvas
hovers like forgotten heaven
in a never changing perspective.
I remain convinced
hiding behind the wispy clouds
in far off future
are contrail winds
of a monsoon rain
providing a prefect segue
to what has always been
meant to be.
From the R.M. Dolin novel, “An Unsustainable Life – Book of Issac.” Issac hasn’t come to terms with Gabriela’s decision to remain in her casually comfortable Chicago life rather than follow him into the rugged New Mexico wilderness. He laments the way things ended and clings to the hope that all those obstacles seeming to separate them can be overcome. Issac has yet to recognize the path he’s on regarding Gabriela is parallel to the path his Uncle Darwin journeyed a generation ago with Becky and that unfortunate truth lies far too far to the right of fairy tales.
TRUTH – the bridge spanning the chasm between what is real and what we believe is real. R.M. Dolin
