Dry Italian Herb Dressing Mix

Many recipes call for Italian dressing mix and while you can just buy the chemical version in the spice section, maybe you want to be healthy….or maybe you’re in a bind and don’t having any on hand for tonight’s dinner and it’s too late to send junior to the store. Well dear friends, you can make your own and you probably have the ingredients on hand. FYI, you can also combine this with some olive oil and balsamic vinegar to make a nice salad dressing.

Ingredients*

  • 3 TBL dried Oregano
  • 2 TBL dried Basil
  • 1 TBL dried Thyme – don’t use ground unless in a bind
  • 1 TBL dried Sage
  • 1 tsp dried Rosemary – don’t use ground unless in a bind
  • For Salad Dressing
    • 6 oz Olive oil (13 TBL)
    • 2 oz TBL Balsamic Vinegar

Process

  1. Mise en Place – measure and prepare your ingredients prior to starting.
  • If you decide to substitute fresh herbs the multiple the amount by three. In other words 1 TBL of dried herb = 3 TBL of fresh herb
