All We Can Do

R.M. Dolin, April 23, 2024

She’s locked in a life
that tears her soul so deeply
dark clouds of doom hover
like an umbrella in rain
deflecting any form of light
that dares to enter,
dashing all hope
of ever finding her rainbow.

You know you must do something
other than partner with denial,
yet no matter what you try,
her hole’s so deep and dark
the only escape is to keep on digging,
as if light really can be found
at the bottom.
In your heart you know,
and hope she does too,
there’s never ever rainbows in the abyss,
even still, all we can do
is keep on digging . . . and hoping.
