A novel by R.M. Dolin
Query Letter: What Is To Be Done
Dear M:
It’s hard running a revolution when you keep getting interrupted, but when a gifted group of retired scientists calling themselves the Americans for a New America (ANA), conclude government is in desperate need of adult intervention, they decide something must be done. Each time they’re about to launch their virtual coup though, local matters intercede. I am seeking publication of my contemporary novel, WHAT IS TO BE DONE, complete at 96,000 words.
In the aftermath of 9/11, Jake and his fellow ANA cohorts develop the super-secret Mind’s Eye technology to track and interdict terrorists, but their capability has since been perverted by politicians and the Information Oligarchies who control them to suppress individual freedom. It seems Quixotic, but using back doors they embedded in their software, the ANA are about to launch a virtual coup, that is, until Sympatico storms into their lives escaping human traffickers. At a time when our nation is torn and conflicted, with chivalry at best a casual cliché, the ANA struggle to advance their ambitions while securing Sympatico’s freedom not yet realizing she’s vital to their seditious success.
Set in Northern New Mexico, WHAT IS TO BE DONE, is for anyone who rallies around the patriotic heroism of right & wrong trumping Left & Right. The novel draws on my experiences as a Los Alamos National Laboratory research engineer and member of the DOJ Human Trafficking Task Force. The novel’s title is from 1901 Vladimir Lenin pamphlet exhorting citizens to end their oppression through revolution.
Thank you for considering, WHAT IS TO BE DONE. The full manuscript is available upon request, and excerpt chapters are available on my website at rmdolin.com. I invite you to review my other novels, books, and poetry, and look forward to your response and to establishing a long-term partnership. Per your submission guidelines, I have. . .
