A Vodka Martini is obviously made with Vodka but there are other things that distinguish it from the classic gin martini, one being, as James Bond so famously said, it’s “shaken not stirred.” Below is a starter recipe to get you in the ball park, you should adjust according to your tastes, but be warned, Martini recipes are as much about religion as good taste so be prepared to be criticized no matter what you do.
Ingredients
- 2 oz. Gin (use a nice flora Gin like Sapphire)
- 0.25 oz. Dry Vermouth
- Lemon zest – optional but usually standard with a Vodka martini
Process
- Mise en Place – measure and prepare your ingredients prior to starting.
- Fill shaker with ice.
- Pour in vermouth.
- Shake until you get a good chill on the wine.
- Strain chilled vermouth into a chilled martini glass and
- Option 1: swirl it around to coat glass and toss out.
- Option 2: swirl around to coat glass and pour back into shaker.
- Add Vodka to shaker and shake until chilled
- Strain into the coated martini glass.
- Garnish with lemon zest twist.
- Serve.
