Query: The Dangling Conversation
Dear M:
Gamblers say all they need to make a fortune is a chip and chair but love, unfortunately, doesn’t work like that; at least not for Kyle and Isabelle, two strangers with nothing in common other than the park bench they share. I am seeking publication of my contemporary novel, THE DANGLING CONVERSATION, complete at 94,000 words.
Kyle’s a mid-fifties engineer forced into early retirement by the false accusations of Machiavellian bureaucrats. He escapes his troubles by sitting alone each night on an isolated park bench. While his crisis is certainly tragic, what really chews up Kyle’s bandwidth is Nadia, who he’s been in love with for the last twenty-three years, five months, and fourteen days. Isabelle’s a divorced thirty-something woman still being stalked by her abusive Ex who she hopes won’t find her. Isabelle recently met, Henry, a career focused man she quickly develops strong feelings for only her relationship with Henry is constantly in crisis.
Set on any park bench anywhere in the world, THE DANGLING CONVERSATION, is a contemporary story for anyone who appreciates the struggles each of us endures as we journey through life. The story is completely told through dialogue such that each chapter is a standalone short story weaving together the struggles of two ordinary people doing their best to make sense of real life.
Thank you for considering, THE DANGLING CONVERSATION. The full manuscript is available upon request and I have excerpt chapters available on my website at rmdolin.com. I invite you to review my other novels, books and poetry and look forward to your response and to establishing a long-term partnership. Per your submission guidelines, I have attached the first five pages of my novel.
Respectfully,
R. M. Dolin, Ph.D.
