Novel by R.M. Dolin
Query: The Dangling Conversation
Dear Ms:
One hides from life while the other is afraid to live; two strangers with nothing in common other than the park bench they share. I am seeking representation for my contemporary novel, THE DANGLING CONVERSATION, complete at 94,000 words.
Kyle (50’s) is a successful engineer forced into early retirement by the false accusations of Machiavellian bureaucrats. He escapes his troubles by sitting alone each night on an isolated park bench and while his crisis is certainly tragic, what chews up bandwidth is his on-again/off-again relationship with Nadia, the woman he fell in love with twenty-three years ago and never learned to unlove. Isabelle (30’s) is everything Kyle’s not, she’s young, impulsive, emotionally driven, and scared; scared of her abusive Ex, of having to restart all over again, and most of all, scared of love. When Isabelle invades Kyle’s quiet sanctuary, it sets off a series of deeply probing conversations about life, love, and the incredible complexities of just getting by.
Set on any park bench anywhere in the world, THE DANGLING CONVERSATION, is a contemporary story for anyone who appreciates the struggles we all endure as we journey through life. The story is completely told through dialogue with each standalone chapter weaving together the struggles of ordinary people dealing with real life.
As a former research engineer at the Los Alamos National Laboratory and someone who has endured being falsely accused, I am qualified to write this story. In addition to publishing over 100 technical papers, I have written five novels, two nonfiction books, one cookbook, and a plethora of poems. My novel writing method is to use poetry for character development and as a springboard for storytelling, in that sense, it is possible to enjoy my stories in both novel and poetry form.
Thank you for considering, THE DANGLING CONVERSATION. The full manuscript is available upon request, but you can also peruse my novels, books, and poetry online at rmdolin.com. I look forward to your response and to establishing a long-term partnership. Per your submission guidelines, I have. . .
Respectfully,
