Poem by R.M. Dolin, December 14, 2024
The subtlety of Sunday lays
in the sudden way
the carelessness of life
we so conspicuously consume
cascades in consequences
no longer able to be ignored.
That's how we're wired,
I see in you
the reflection I want
to see in me
while seeing through
all those realities
making you
someone who should have been
but will never be.
From the R. M. Dolin novel, “An Unsustainable Life.” Last night’s grueling shift at the bar leaves Issac wondering if he should stay with Gabriella. He’s sipping morning coffee while staring through an isolated kitchen window to the distant Jemez Mountains not yet woke to the realization his “value proposition,” is evolving in ways that cause him to challenge the world of self-sustainment he’s tepidly stepping into while subconsciously clinging to the ne’er-do-well life he’s afraid to abandon.
