Long Island Ice Tea Cocktail

If your goal during happy hour is to get to the train station long before the train arrives, this is the cocktail for you. It’s a smooth tasting easy to sip cocktail that packs a powerful punch so be careful an limit yourself to one….or two if you’re already home for the night. Like all inventions, multiple people claim to have invented this cocktail, none of them from Long Island, NY. The most likely originator is a guy called “Old Man Bishop,” from Long Island, Tennessee during prohibition. There’s just too much not to like in this version of history, first that powerful cocktail came from the bible belt, that the guy who invented it was a Bishop and he did it during prohibition to stick it to over zealous government over-reach. . . makes me want to mix up another.

Ingredients

  • 0.5 oz Gin
  • 0.5 oz Rum
  • 0.5 oz Vodka
  • 0.5 oz Tequila
  • 0.5 oz Triple Sec
  • 0.5 oz Simple Syrup (1 part sugar to 1 part water)
  • 1 oz Cola soda
  • 1 oz Lemon juice
  • 1 Lemon wedge

Process

  1. Mise en Place: measure and prepare your ingredients prior to starting.
  2. Fill shaker with ice and pour in ingredients.
  3. Shake until you finish singing the Bugs Bunny Bartender song.
  4. Strain into a glass
  5. Garnish with a lemon Wedge

Note: You can serve on the rocks if you like but the melting ice will dilute the drink. You can also substitute limes for the lemons to give it a different profile.
