Companion poem to chapter 8 of the R.M. Dolin novel, "What Is to Be Done"

I don’t know how
not to love you
any more than
touching your picture
can make you more
than a memory.
Tell me quick
before the breaking day
exposes my dream
as nothing more
than fantastic fantasy
waiting for
the magic of memories
to make it real.
Is it okay
I still love you. . .
From the R.M. Dolin novel, “What Is to Be Done.” After everything that went down last night at the Al Azar, Jake sits on the edge of his bed in predawn darkness waiting for Emelia’s phone alarm to play La Marseillaise. He’s holding a picture of his beloved wife wishing he could touch her one last time. It is only after he hears the alarm that he can start his day.
