The history of Irish coffee is a bit contested but majority opinion is that it was invented in the 1940 by a Chef on a cruise ship San Francisco for a guest who wanted a hot cocktail to warm her up. This is a simple four ingredient cocktail that can also double as a light after dinner dessert. It is based on the original Irish coffee recipe.
Ingredients
- 4 oz strong coffee – espresso or French Roast is best
- 1.5 oz Irish whiskey – or any good Rye whiskey
- 1 oz heavy cream – lightly whipped – can substitute frothed milk
- 2 tsp Brown Sugar – packed or to taste
Process
- Place sugar in coffee mug or heat proof glass.
- Add hot coffee.
- Add whiskey and stir until sugar is integrated.
- Spoon on whipped cream.
- Enjoy
