Pages are meant for turning,
moments meant for passing,
yet some linger like shadows
brought to life
under a fog enshrouded lamppost
on a misty night.
Silent and distant,
providing little comfort
no matter how much
their presence is welcomed.
Do you remember loving me,
or was it just a lie
I allow myself to believe.
How are you certain
it really is really over.
Don’t I deserve to know
that while we were together
you at least tried,
at least until you couldn’t
pretend anymore.
Just so you know,
I never did.
Background poem for the novel, “The Dangling Conversation.” Kyle questions whether Nadia ever loved him while accepting he still loves her.
