In the absence of clairvoyance
we gamble through decisions
with as much insight
as a miner underground
when the lights go out.
Only then can we comprehend
what it means to be lost to the void,
only then does
the numbing weight of life
draw down every sense of
hope or happiness,
cascading our conscious like
a waterfall of marbles meant to hurt.
From the R.M. Dolin novel, “What Is to Be Done.” Jake sets off for his morning bike ride focused on making sense of what happened last night and more importantly, what to do about the woman sleeping in his guest room. Halfway up Totavi hill, he finds his solution, he’ll dump her off on Dario…only that’s not possible, which causes Jake to seek alternatives.
