Not seeing things for what they are
has always been my Waterloo.
Just as keeping my heart from hearing
the wisdom of wind, from feeling
the abject coldness she carries,
causes me to disregard her
lessons on being in love
with someone who doesn't love me.
Your last words run echos through
the darkness of our distance, chasing
me to worlds where we're still together.
The letting go I muster more than accepting
my first thoughts can no longer be of you
because it is not possible to forget
the many ways you'll always be a part of my heart.
Background poem for the novel, “The Dangling Conversation.” Kyle attempts to accept Nadia is no longer in his life while also acknowledging in his heart she’ll never leave.
