A poem by R.M. Dolin, April 2026
When I Think About You
When the darkness of distance grow restless
and slumber fills my head with dreams
vying to be real,
that’s when I most think of you.
How it is to hold you,
the warm caress of your breath
and the soft way your silky hair
flows around my shoulder like cactus cloth
from a Marrakesh market.
The smell of your supple skin
laced with wonders of spring
and the eternal essence of forever.
The sensation my lips get
gently pressing against yours,
the tender touch of
your hands on my body,
countering the ecstasy of my hands
tracing every contour of you.
From chapter 9 of the R.M. Dolin novel, “An Unsustainable life – The Book of Issac.” After Issac’s world crumbles, he fantasizes about being back with Gabriella and picking up where they left off. Of course it is just a fantasy since he overlooks the hell his life would once more become if he was in fact with her again.
This poem was inspired by a brief but beautiful encounter with a Romanian woman living on the French side of the Swiss border.
