Need To Know
I want to hold you in the piñón embers
of my twilight soul,
feel the tenderness of your touch
syncopate with rhythms devoid of desperation.
I want to see your flatline smile
curve toward sunshine one last time
as you share worries I vow to vanquish,
if not here,
then where I’m going.
I want to connect on levels we’ve failed to indulge,
allow naive innocence to epoxy over
misguided moments of familiar isolation.
I want to love you,
risk falling short of your dreams and expectations.
And in return dear one,
I need to know you love me,
only that can conquer
the regrettable reasons I’m so afraid.
Composed on my phone while watching a football game with my Dad.
