Poems from the R.M. Dolin novel, “The Dangling Conversation”
Does Love Exist
He didn’t love me
or maybe
I didn’t love him enough,
at least not
the way I was supposed to.
I hide from
the horrible truth
love doesn’t exist.
If it does,
how can we know
we’ve ever been in love?
It’s impossible because
it is not possible
to ever know
what’s in your lover’s heart.
I loved him until
he didn’t love me
and maybe that’s because
I didn’t love him.
It’s a circular possibility
is all I’m saying.
From chapter 3 of the R.M. Dolin novel, “The Dangling Conversation.” Isabelle talks about the relationship with her Ex as she attempts to decide if she’s ever been happy.
