Classic Dirty Martini

The classic Martini is made from Gin not Vodka and as anyone with any sense of sophistication can attest, the Gin Martini is hands down better. A Dirty Martini is one with olive brine and olives. Below is a starter recipe to get you in the ball park, you should adjust according to your tastes, but be warned, Martini recipes are as much about religion as they are good taste so be prepared to be criticized no matter what you do.

Ingredients

  • 2.5 oz. Gin (can substitute vodka, but why)
  • 0.5 oz. Dry Vermouth
  • 0.5 oz. Olive Brine
  • 2 Olives, with pimentos is preferred but your call
  • Lemon zest – optional

Process

  1. Mise en Place – measure and prepare your ingredients prior to starting.
  2. Fill an shaker with ice.
  3. Pour in vermouth and shake until cold.
  4. Strain chilled vermouth into martini glass and
    • Option 1: swirl it around and toss out.
    • Option 2: swirl around and pour back into shaker once glass is chilled.
  5. Add Gin and olive brine to shaker and shake until chilled
  6. Strain into martini glass.
  7. Add olives and lemon zest is using.
  8. Serve.
