Poems from the R.M. Dolin novel, “The Dangling Conversation”
Sounds of Silence
It’s unfair to even call this
a disagreement
since we’re not in conflict,
more a mismatch in expectations.
Not even really that,
we’ve just stopped communicating.
Stopped anticipating.
That’s the sad scary part.
Our only sounds are
those of silence teetering on
the edge of amplification.
From chapter 5 of the R.M. Dolin novel, “The Dangling Conversation.” Isabelle explains a conflict she and Henry are having about their relationship’s level of engagement.
