Oven Baked Rice – Garlic Butter

There are many ways to prepare rice, using a rice cooker is the most common, but is not best for all tastes and textures we are looking for in some recipes. For example, if you are preparing South American or Korean cuisine you probably want to saute the rice, if you are making sushi, you want to boil the rice dry so it will be sticky. Here is a recipe for oven baking rice that is the best way to make rice for a casserole or as a bed for baked fish. This recipe will include a butter garlic flare, but it can be omitted if that’s not your deal.

Ingredients

  • 16 oz Chicken broth – can use stock
  • 8 oz long grain rice (uncooked)
  • 4 oz butter
  • 3 Cloves garlic – minced
  • 1 tsp Kosher salt

Process

  1. Mise en Place – measure and prepare your ingredients.
  2. Set oven to 350 deg F (175 C).
  3. Put butter in oven proof dish and place in oven as it warms. Leave in until melted.
  4. Remove butter dish and add garlic, rice, and salt. Stir until rice is coated and return to oven for 5 mins.
  5. Heat chicken broth to boil and add to rice mixture. Bake uncovered ~20 mins – until broth is absorbed and rice is tender.
    • If using a bed for a protein, place the protein on top of the rice for final bake. For example, if using chicken, precook the chicken and place on top of rice for last 10 mins of bake.
    • If topping with fish, place fish on top for however long you fish needs to bake.
    • Can also just be used as a side, in that case just bake the 20 mins.
  6. Options: you can add things to dress up your rise casserole, like saffron or chopped cilantro.
