Homemade Syrup

Ever get to the end of the making a batch of pancakes, with 12 hungry people ready to chow down, only to finally remember the item you forget to get at the store yesterday was syrup….a seemingly harmless part of the pancakes that make renders the meal non eatable. I’m not saying this happens to me (frequently), just that it can, and when it does, it’s nice to know you can make your own syrup pretty fast.

Ingredients

  • 1cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1cup Brown Sugar
  • 8 oz Water
  • 1 TBL Dark rum or more if the crew is ornery

Process

  1. Mise en Place – measure and prepare your ingredients prior to starting.
  2. Mix all the ingredients together.
  3. Cook on Low until a slow boil begins.
  4. Continue cooking for ~20 mins to thicken, be careful not to get too hot or the sugar will burn giving your syrup a burnt taste.
